If you’re located somewhere in Europe, you’re likely moving through a heatwave, too. I used to enjoy those and baked in the sun for hours on end, no matter how hot it was.
I remember one summer vacation in Portugal, a thousand years ago, when a heatwave rolled over the country. At the hottest time of day it was about 44 degrees Celsius (111 F). The normally crowded beach was empty. Everyone’d fled to the shade or was napping somewhere.
But my friend and I? Were stretched out on our beach towels, getting a tan. We had to put on shoes to walk to the sea, because the sand was so hot it instantly burned the soles of your feet to a crisp. I LOVED it.
Now?
Give me shade, baby!
And something else I do?
I slow the fuck down.
Instead of cursing everyone who walks too slow, I’m the one moving like a snail now.
I eat slower.
Drink slower.
Do everything at a slower pace.
My whole system slows down.
I swear even my blood flows at a slower pace these days.
I usually live slow—but normally, I don’t mean to move like molasses or take three weeks to put on socks.
I mean to live in the moment.
To be present to what’s here, now.
To really taste the tea, the eggs, the failed attempt at a banana bread. (Yuk.)
To experience what’s here, fully, whether it’s joy, boredom, crankiness or sadness.
It’s not really about literally slowing down, but of being aware where attention goes.
(And at first, it helps to slow down. Until being present becomes mostly your first nature.)
Slowing down is possible even if you’re a fast mover, a lover of hustling and running on adrenaline.
You can hustle and run while slowing down internally. You can be super active while being fully present, or while being lost in thought.
What you’ll find when you slow down is already here.
You’re just not listening to it yet.
You don’t miss out on anything when you become more present.
When you stop rushing from one thing to the next.
The opposite actually happens.
Life feels so much richer.
As if the volume on colors and tastes and sensations is turned up.
You suddenly see that there really is a notable difference between egg-shell white and scared-shitless white. (It was all just white to you before.)
You find you know things you didn’t know you knew.
You find that life doesn’t take more effort, but less.
This heatwave is the perfect reminder to slow down.
Your body probably signals that to you already.
That’s why I’ve opened up some single private coaching sessions.
They’re perfect to home in on that nagging sense that something’s missing, or that decision that remains unclear no matter how much you think it through.
Or to take a look at that restlessness, that boredom, that overwhelm, and see what it has to tell you (if anything at all.)
You can bring whatever’s up for you now.
This single private 2-hour session helps you slow down. Zoom in.
Dive into the moment and see how that decision you’ve been mulling over for months is suddenly clear without thinking it through.
To feel your mind quiet down and no longer hear those whispers wondering if you’re doing enough (if you are enough).
You leave knowing what you actually want—not what you think you should want or what you’ve been wanting on autopilot for the past 5 years.
You hear your own truth and clarity louder than you have in a long, long time. (Perhaps since you last fit into those skinny jeans.)
I’ve opened a handful of spots for the summer.
You can read more and book yours here now.
Love,
