You know that Sunday morning feeling, when there’s nothing pressing on your schedule, and the whole day stretches out in front of you like a French lavender field at the height of its bloom?⁣
⁣
You’re in the shower, the water’s exactly warm enough, your eyes are closed, and nothing and no one is demanding your attention?⁣
⁣
Aaaaaahhhhhhh ….⁣
⁣
This is the life. ⁣
This is what you want more of.⁣
THIS …⁣
⁣
And then you remember the email you have to send your client to remind her of a missed payment.⁣
And the doctor’s visit on Tuesday.⁣
And dread has its claws in your stomach.⁣
Bye bye lavender, hello mild to strong panic.⁣
⁣
Goddammit!⁣
You felt SO good only seconds ago, and now … back to real life.⁣
(Whatever that is.)⁣
⁣
Maybe you’ll feel like this again in the future.⁣
After retirement.⁣
When the kids left home. (How long??)⁣
Or on that Sunday 7 1/2 months from now that still looks pretty open on your calendar. ⁣
⁣
Or maybe you need to dig up that mindfulness course you purchased 27 years ago and never even opened. ⁣
⁣
And in a split second, that okayness became something you need to work for so you can find it again in the future. (Fingers crossed.)⁣
⁣
But this state of all-is-well even though your bank account is running dangerously low is not something you earn after 33 hail Marys and 57 hours of uninterrupted meditation.⁣
⁣
It’s already here.⁣
It’s what you feel when, unexpectedly, you’re not striving, not bracing, not preparing, not lost in thought for what usually lasts no longer than 3 seconds.⁣
⁣
It was here the whole time.⁣
You just kept walking past it on your way to something better. ⁣

⁣

Love,
