“I’m not worried about money, even though the mortgage is almost due and I’m not sure how to pay it. Should I be worried that I’m not worried?” ⁣
⁣
A question I’ve been asked by more than one client.⁣
⁣
Not always about paying a mortgage.⁣
Sometimes about missing out on a big project.⁣
Still not having found your soulmate.⁣
A social media post you worked on for 6 hours not getting any likes within 3 seconds.⁣
⁣
You’re used to worrying about it.⁣
And now, suddenly … nada.⁣
No worry on the horizon.⁣
⁣
What the fuck?⁣
Something must be wrong. ⁣
How is it possible you’re not stressed?⁣
It’s unhealthy.⁣
And probably unsafe.⁣
⁣
It’s not.⁣
⁣
You just learned that if you don’t worry about someone, you don’t truly care.⁣
That a little stress keeps you on your toes.⁣
That worries somehow magically keep Bad Things away.⁣
⁣
They don’t.⁣
⁣
Worries are just little bursts of energy.⁣
Flaring up and out again.⁣
⁣
Next time you’re worried, about whatever:⁣
Don’t react.⁣
Don’t soothe.⁣
Don’t jump into problem-solving mode.⁣
⁣
Just see how long that worry lasts if you look at it as if you’re watching a fly bump into the window looking for the exit.⁣
⁣
That fly will find the open window sooner or later and leave you alone.⁣
Just like that worry will. ⁣
(You were never in charge anyway.)⁣

⁣
