I thought I was lazy for a long time.
I was made to believe that was wrong.
Idle brains are the devil’s workshop and all that.
You should be active.
Productive.
Outgoing.
Grab life by the balls and make something of it.
And of yourself.
But I always sensed there was more.
More to life than we can see.
More to life than anyone told me.
Life was easier than people made it out to be.
I was certain but had no proof.
And then, one day, at age 15, I read this Taoist saying:
“The master, she acts not, yet everything gets done.”
I didn’t understand it.
But I felt its truth deep in my bones.
Every inch of my body exhaled, deeply.
Years passed.
I learned I wasn’t lazy.
On the contrary.
I was quite productive.
And was also capable of being still.
Calm.
Not doing much of anything.
What I used to call lazy—
still did—
but no longer felt bad about.
But something was still missing.
I kept seeking.
And found the Law of Attraction.
It promised ease.
You only had to think the right thoughts to attract the right life.
But that was still work:
Managing your thoughts.
Managing your vibe.
Managing your outcomes.
This wasn’t what the Taoists spoke of, I was certain.
So I kept searching.
Until I tried everything I could think of.
Nothing worked.
Disillusioned, I stopped searching.
And damn …
That’s when I realized that ease was already here.
That life doesn’t need managing.
(And neither did I.)
And the ease I craved was in dropping effort.
Dropping seeking.
Dropping force.
If you long for ease you are not lazy.
And if you are, that’s okay.
You just sense that life is easier than you learned it is.
And that ease is calling your name.
Love,
