I used to have an ulterior motive for my interest in all things spiritual:

I wanted to transcend my humanity. Humanity was, in my eyes, a failed experiment. Here we were, after all these years, still fighting, going to war, raping the planet and each other … How stupid can you be? Or so I used to think.

Spirituality seemed a great way to bypass that stupidity. That messiness. I thought there were different levels of consciousness, and I wanted to rise to the highest possible level, so I wouldn’t be bothered by human shittiness anymore.

And then, after years of seeking, the search collapsed.

I realized that I was not a separate human being and once I saw that …

I embraced my humanness like a motherfucker.

Haha!

If you’d told my 18-year old self this, I’d have slapped you in the face.

But here we are.

The more I see what I truly am is not a human, the more I see my deep humanity. The more I embrace ‘ordinary’ life. The more I see there’s nothing ordinary about it.

This existence is an all-inclusive trip.

You’re life itself.

AND

You’re the human doing dishes.

Making politically incorrect jokes. (Or maybe that’s just me.)

The human being unkind and jealous.

The person who can burb the alphabet.

Life is an all-inclusive trip.
