In December 2019, I recorded a podcast on why I don’t meditate.
I don’t know what I talked about on that podcast exactly, but I can tell you the main reason why I didn’t meditate: because I didn’t feel called to do so. And when I don’t feel called to do something, I don’t do it. Even when it’s something billions of people swear by and benefit from.
But over the past 2 weeks, there were 3 different moments when I thought: perhaps it’s time to start meditating again.
Then on Friday, I talked with a dear friend. I KNOW she doesn’t meditate either. We talked about that when I published my podcast on not meditating over 2 years ago.
Out of the blue, she asked me if I sometimes thought it might be a good idea to pick up meditating. It had been on her mind on and off lately …
When she said this, I could feel with absolute certainty that it was time to start meditating again.
I have NO clue. I mean, I can rationalize my decision by reminding myself how beneficial it is to meditate. Which it IS.
But in the end, I’m doing it for the same reason I did NOT do it until now:
Because my soul is calling me to do it.
That’s all the reason I need.
Starting today, I’m meditating for 15 minutes, twice per day, every day, throughout February. After this month, we’ll see what happens and what feels aligned for me then, but for now, this is what I’m committed to.
(Meditating for 15 minutes means: sitting with your eyes closed, noticing your thoughts, and watching them go by like clouds in the sky. I do NOT mean listening to a guided meditation. I listen to those quite regularly already.)
How about you?
Do you meditate?
If not, is your soul perhaps calling you to start doing it, too?
