Sometimes a client tells me they want to write a book but can’t do it, because they fear their writing isn’t good enough.
But the truth is that you don’t need special writing skills to write non-fiction.
It helps if you’re good at it, but is it absolutely necessary?
This fear is one of the fears that stop people from writing a book that I address in my latest book 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝗻-𝗙𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝟯 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 (𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟯𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆!)
Here’s a quote from the chapter that addresses the fear that your writing isn’t good enough:
“You don’t have to be an excellent writer to write a valuable non-fiction book. A novel written by a so-so writer is a waste of trees. But when you write a book about how to create your own WordPress site or how to meditate, it doesn’t really matter if you’re a talented writer. The most important thing is that you’re able to convey your message in a way people understand and that they can easily implement. You need to write coherently and efficiently, but your writing doesn’t have to be poetic or beautiful. If you can address your topic in a way people can grasp, you can write a non-fiction book.”
If this or another fear stops you from writing a book, do yourself a favor:
