“If you can write a Tweet, you can write a non-fiction book,” I said to Arjen this morning.

“Hmmmm,” he said, “I’m not so sure you should say that. Aren’t you diminishing what it takes to write a book?”

Good point. Because yes, of COURSE writing a book takes more than writing a Tweet.

But at the same time, it’s also true…

You don’t have to be an excellent writer to write a non-fiction book that brings value to your reader.

A novel or thriller written by a so-so writer is a waste of trees.

But when you write a book about how to create your own WordPress site, or how to meditate, it doesn’t really matter if you’re a good writer or not.

The most important thing is that you’re able to convey the steps and your message in a way people understand and can implement.

You need to be able to write coherently and efficiently, but your writing doesn’t need to be poetic or beautiful.

If you can convey your message in a way people understand, you can write a non-fiction book.

I read A LOT of non-fiction books that aren’t written well. I read a couple of different business novels for example that were so badly written it almost made me cry. If these books had been regular novels, I’d have thrown them out after reading the first one, perhaps two pages.

But the business content was excellent. So overall, I enjoyed my reading experience and took a lot of value from these books.

The reason I share this with you, is because the fear of not being a good enough writer stops many people from writing their book.

(The fear of not having something to add to the books that are already out there is another big one. I tackled that in this article.)

But when you feel called, drawn or inspired to write a book?

When you dream about writing a book?

There’s a book out there with your name on it, and you’re meant to write it…

Otherwise the idea would not have come up for you!

So if you dream of writing a book one day?

Write it.

And if you resonate with this now?

Write it now.

There’s more than enough space for your book, even when there are hundreds of books written on your topic already.

And you don’t have to write as well as Toni Morrison, Alessandro Baricco or Elizabeth Gilbert to write your non-fiction book. If you can string some clear, understandable copy together you’re good to go!

Plus, practice and good editing makes, well, not perfect, but vastly improves your writing for sure!

So if you’ve always wanted to write a book?

Write it, baby.

Your desires and dreams are your soul’s guide posts, showing you where to go next…

To your book!
