That’s me at age 6, in the picture above.
(On the left.)
At that age, I was already clear what my life would look like when I was finally a grown-up:
I’d do whatever I felt like 24/7, just because I felt like it, with no one to answer to and no one telling me what to do.
I’d be and feel completely free, always.
I didn’t know what that would look like or what I’d do to make money – that wasn’t something I gave much thought to at that age.
But I knew EXACTLY how I’d feel!
Oh, and I knew 2 more things as well:
- I’d never have children. I had no interest in that (never did).
- I wanted to be a writer. (Or, better yet: a part of me already knew that I was.)
But then I grew up, and what most people call ‘reality’ drowned out this vision.
The only ways I could think of to make money as a writer were things I did NOT fancy, like working as a journalist.
So I dropped the desire to be a writer.
I had NO clue what else I wanted to do with my life and got trapped in a job – so that was my freedom and doing what I felt like 24/7 out the window as well.
I was stuck in that for a couple of years.
Just like many people around me were stuck in a life they didn’t want, without having a clue (nor the courage) how to turn that around.
The difference between me and those other people was that I did not settle for a life I didn’t truly want.
Life is too precious and beautiful for that.
And your soul wants to LIVE and express itself – not suffocate and slowly die as a result.
So at age 30 I decided that enough was enough, and I was going to find out what made my life meaningful and worth living.
And so I did.
I went to a career coach; discovered I wanted to work as a coach; learned how to coach; started my business 3 years later; and wrote my first book in 2008.
It took another couple of years to create the business & lifestyle I TRULY desired, though.
And to embrace the fact that I’m a writer who also coaches – not a coach who also writes.
It took me a while, but now I live EXACTLY as I already knew I would at age 6.
Not because of luck, a fluke, or coincidence.
(And yes, I do realize that part of it is definitely being born in the right country at the right time. But millions of others are born in the same circumstances who are NOT living the life they TRULY want.)
But because I consciously created this life for myself.
I decided to find what makes life meaningful and worth living for me.
Once I knew, I decided to GO for that life – and not settle for anything less than that.
I learned what I needed to learn and UNlearned all the crap I didn’t need anymore.
I let go of what no longer served me and embraced everything that did.
I stopped doing things that aren’t aligned with my personality & soul and live according to my deepest truth instead.
I stopped doing what I don’t love and focus ONLY on what I DO love.
I let my soul lead the way and let my fears take the back seat.
And I made decisions and took actions that brought me closer to my TRUE life day in, day out, year in, year out – and I continue to do so each day.
Does that sound like a lot of work?
It takes WAY MORE energy to NOT follow your soul.
It takes a HELL of a lot more effort to NOT do what you love.
It’s MUCH harder to go against who you truly are.
It wears you out and burns you up to NOT follow your joy.
And you still encounter fears, struggles, issues, doubts, pain, and heartache along the way.
Ignoring who you truly are and living your fears instead of your dreams does not keep you safe, does not make you happy, and does not fulfill you one bit.
So you might as well go for the most beautiful vision you have for your life!
And when you do…..aaaahhhhhhh…..:
Magic happens more than ever before.
Your soul leads you to experiences you never thought you’d have.
You see yourself do things you never thought you had in you.
You move past fears you never thought you could deal with.
Your mind opens up and you never look at the world the same way again.
You start seeing more options instead of seeing more limits (something that seems to happen for most people – who do NOT follow their heart – as they grow older.)
EVERY step is worth it and brings you so much good (even though you can’t always see it in the moment.)
So what are you waiting for?
Start living the life you are meant to live.
The life you already sensed would be yours when you were still a kid.
What were the ideas you had for your life when you were 6 years old?
Remember: you were born intact with your entire soul blueprint already inside you.
You already knew who you were and what life you were born for.
The most pure vision you EVER had for your life is the one you had as a kid – before you were brainwashed by other people’s ideas of ‘reality’.
The good news is:
That pure vision is STILL part of you.
And it’s NEVER too late to start living your truth.
To start following your soul.
So think back to when you were 4, 5 or 6 years old.
What did you most love to do?
How did you most want to live?
What did you see yourself doing as a grown up?
Who did you see yourself being?
And how did you see yourself living?
You don’t have to know all the answers or details.
You always know SOMETHING.
Start with what you can remember.
And see how you can translate that knowing into your reality today.
What did you dream about when you still felt like the whole world was wide open for you?
And how can you live a version of that life a little more each day?
