People don’t usually celebrate feeling overwhelmed.

I know I don’t. And you probably don’t break out the champagne for it either.

On the contrary!

 

Your first reaction to overwhelm is usually one of these :

#1 It paralyzes you, and everything you were working on comes to a grinding halt (this is my default reaction to it),

or

#2 You start running around like crazy, taking frantic action without taking the time to focus on what needs to happen first.

Both of these responses aren’t helpful.

 

The best way to deal with overwhelm is this:

Breathe into it. Surrender to it. Completely accept what you feel in this moment, and how uncomfortable and scared it makes you feel.

Don’t suppress it, don’t push it aside, don’t battle through it.

 

Just let it be, and be FULLY present to it.

Take deeper and deeper breaths, and take longer inbreaths and longer outbreaths.

Notice what you feel in your body. Simply observe whatever you feel, without trying to change it.

 

This only takes a couple of minutes.

When you’ve calmed down and feel more relaxed, you’ll know what to focus on next. You may still feel slightly overwhelmed, but at this point, it doesn’t take you over anymore.

You’re back in control.

 

Now let’s look at what’s good about feeling overwhelmed:

 

I recently read an Abraham-quote that offered a perspective on overwhelm I hadn’t thought of before.

A very interesting and positive perspective that makes feeling overwhelmed a really good thing:

 

“Overwhelment is about you not being up to speed with what you told the Universe that you want.

 

The Universe is yielding to you.

 

You’re just not ready to receive it right now.”

 

Abraham

 

 

The universe is YIELDING to you, baby!

If that’s not a good reason to break out the champagne, I don’t know what is.
