Last week one of my private coaching clients asked me this simple yet powerful question:
“How can I start thinking and acting bigger? I feel like there’s more I can do and accomplish, but I don’t know where to start.”
Part of the answer she was looking for, was already embedded in her question:
The fact that EVERYTHING is created from the inside out.
Every change, every creation and all growth starts from inside of YOU – always.
This means that if you want to play bigger, you need to THINK bigger first.
Sounds easy enough. But it isn’t.
As soon as you even try to think bigger, your gremlins wake up: those nasty little voices that tell you you’re not good enough, you’re never gonna make it, and no one is waiting for what you have to offer. So why bother.
These voices can be very hard to deal with – if you even recognize them to begin with. Some of the things they say sound so rational, so true. So we don’t question the voices, and simply believe them.
(TIP: Don’t believe everything you think! Just because you think it, doesn’t make it true.)
So here’s how to think (and act!) bigger without your gremlins totally freaking out:
Stretch your thinking, step by step.
Don’t try to reach for the biggest game, the biggest mission or the biggest goal EVER – that’s usually a recipe for failure.
When you do that, your gremlins not just wake up and growl at you, they will actively start hunting you. Their screams will be SO loud, that there won’t be much room for any other thoughts.
Your doubts & fears will take over. You will stop, step back, and make yourself as small as you can to feel better again.
So please, don’t think BIG – unless it inspires you, and motivates you to take action.

Stretch your thinking instead.
Here’s how it works:
First, choose a project you’re either working on already, or start working on soon.
Let’s say, for example, that your project is a free teleclass you plan to deliver in a month.
Next, write down your numbers:
- How many people do you want to sign up for your free call?
- How many people do you want to respond to the call to action you’ll make in that free call? (For example: sign up for a live workshop)
Then, write down a rough draft of your launch plan or marketing plan:
What are you going to do to achieve these numbers? How many tweets will you post, emails will you send, and blogs will you write? What else will you do?
Now, take a look at everything you wrote down.
I bet you picked a number and created a plan that feels kind of safe or familiar. Maybe you’ve delivered this workshop before, and then 7 people signed up. So now you wrote down 7 again, or maybe went a little bit up, to 10.
And if you haven’t done any of this before, you probably picked numbers and created a plan that feels doable. (And safe…).
Finally, it’s time for the last step: STRETCH IT, baby!
This week’s transformational action:
Triple the number of people you want to sign up for your call and your workshop.
Triple whatever your were planning to do to market and launch it.
Yes, this will probably trigger some gremlins. Ignore them for now.
Don’t focus on the voices telling you it can’t be done. Instead, ask yourself:
How CAN I get it done? How cool would it be to actually achieve it? How would that change me, and what would that mean for my business?
You’ve got absolutely nothing to lose. And everything to win!
