What was your first reaction when you read the title of this article?

“Thanks, I have all the fun I can handle already.”?

If it was something like that you can stop reading this article – I have nothing to teach you today;)

But if it was something along the lines of “Fun? Play? Are you CRAZY?! Don’t know what you think you’re doing but I’m running a business here!”

Then I suggest you grab a cup of coffee and sit down for a good dose of inspiration.

Let’s start with taking inventory:

On a scale of 1 – 10, how happy are you with your business right now?

(1 represents: as unhappy as I can possible be 10 represents: so happy I could explode from sheer joy!)

If you’re still with me right now, I’m guessing there’s some room for improvement.

Most of us can use a little more fun & play in our business.

There’s so much to do and so much going on, that we tend to get too serious about our work.

If that’s something you recognize, it is time to lighten up!

And I have a great tip that will help you with that:

Step 1

What is it you LOVE to do that you’d like to spend more time on? This can be something you already do, but not as much as you’d like.

It can also be something you didn’t get around to in a while.

Make a list of everything that comes to mind.

Step 2

Pick one thing from your list that makes you happy just thinking about doing it more (often).

Step 3

Now it’s time to brainstorm: come up with 10 ways you could spend (more) time on it IN your business.

These ideas do not have to be or seem practical, doable, normal, rational or whatever else kills your creativity in the blink of an eye.

Give yourself permission to go nuts. I won’t tell anyone 😉

Some examples to get you started:

  • Suppose you’d like to spend more time cooking. You could for example host a cook-great-food-coaching-party for your clients (Cook & Coach).
  • If you like to ski, you can take your VIP-clients on a ski-retreat.
  • If you like to read, you could start a paid book club with some clients around a certain theme or book genre;
  • Etc. You get where I’m going with this.

Step 4

Pick one idea that actually seems doable without much effort, time and/or money.

Step 5

Do it!

This is exactly what I did with writing.

I want to write more. Not just business related stuff. I LOVE the process of writing, about anything.

I’ve always done that for fun. (One friend has a collection of weird letters I sent her by snail mail over the years. And another friend has a book with short stories I wrote to read to her kids – not sure it’s appropriate reading for small children though.)

So, I decided I want to do more with it just for the fun of it.

And yesterday I came up with a great idea:

I’m going to add a new category to my blog on my website, and I’ll call that category ‘Not my business’.

And there I can just write all kind of whatever the heck I feel like writing about-posts that have nothing to do with my business.

I am very pleased with this idea 🙂

Without even having written anything yet, I feel happy just thinking about it.

I invite you to come up with an idea that lights you up as well!

This week’s transformational action:

1. Go through the steps above, and play around with as much crazy ideas as you can come up with.
