For a lot of entrepreneurs it’s a crazy busy time right now.
Summer is over, the last quarter of the year is just around the corner, and there’s still a lot to do.
Maybe you’re working extra hard to make sure you reach the goals you set for yourself this year.
Maybe you’re launching a (new) program this fall and are working on some new plans and ideas.
In short: you’re running a (growing) business.
So how do you do that without going totally crazy in the process?
And maybe even more important:
How do you turn it around when you’re already feeling overwhelmed?
These tips help you stay sane and become more productive:
Tip #1: start your day with meditation (Or be quiet. Or journal. Do ANY type of inner work FIRST.)
I know, you think you don’t have the time. And all that seems to happen when you meditate is that your thoughts are going around in your mind like crazy. And maybe you’re not the meditating type at all.
Well, just try it anyway.
Don’t overcomplicate it: sit down, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. Set the alarm for 10 or 15 minutes, and just sit and breathe.
You can also try guided meditations. There are dozens of (free) apps available with great meditations. Just try some out to see which fit you.
Tip #2: walk yourself for 30 minutes
If you don’t have a dog, just walk yourself. Preferably somewhere in nature.
It’s very tempting to stay inside and keep on working.
But if you don’t take any breaks, you’ll get tired and grumpy and completely non-creative.
You need breaks and fresh air to stay productive in a healthy, non-substance-abuse kind of way 😉
Taking a walk has all kind of benefits that I’m sure you’re already aware of, so just go and do it.
If only for 5 minutes. Even that is better than staying glued to your desk.
Tip #3: set boundaries
Be very mindful of what you spend your time on – and for how long:
- Don’t answer the phone when you’re writing or concentrating on something else.
- Make sure that a one-hour call actually lasts one hour, and not a minute more.
- Figure out which work schedule fits you best – and stick to it.
Tip #4: delegate (more)
Is this particular task or job something that needs to be done? And if so, does it have to be done by YOU?
No, you’re not better and smarter and more efficient than anybody else.
I used to think that as well, but in reality I was just scared of delegating: I wanted to keep control and thought that if a mistake was to be made, it was best made by me.
(I know, I know – but believe me, it made perfect sense in my mind at the time)
The bottom line is this:
If you want to grow your business, you need to delegate. You must. Really.
Maybe not today, but you will some time in the future.
Tip #5: have fun
Fun? Are you crazy? I don’t have time to have fun!
Aahhhh…if that’s what you’re thinking you’re in desperate need of waayyyy more fun!
Tell someone a bad joke and laugh really, really loud at it.
Watch a funny movie.
Do whatéver just for the total and utter fun of it.
(Within the law and stuff like that; just saying in case you decide to do something really stupid and then try blaming it on me 😉
This week’s Transformational Action
Managing your time and remaining productive is very important of course, and you should definitely apply the tips that speak to you.
What helped me THE most to feel calm and relaxed again, was to remind myself of WHY it’s so important to me to grow my business and to do everything I do.
It’s not about being busy for the sake of being busy.
It’s about sharing your gifts, making a difference, and fulfilling your purpose and mission in your business.
Take some time to deeply reconnect to your own purpose this week.
It helps you put everything in perspective, and decide what you should and should not spend your precious time – your precious LIFE! – on.
